Darwin Orientation: Layout and Directions

One of the main thoroughfares in Darwin is the Esplanade, which stands close to Peel Street and the Darwin Transit Centre. The city's Esplanade runs almost the entire length of Darwin, standing alongside the scenic coastline and stretching from Bicentennial Park to the Wharf District. On the northern side of the Esplanade you will find Aquascene, a notable attraction where huge numbers of fish gather at high tide.

Located parallel to the Darwin Esplanade is Mitchell street, which is home to many popular entertainment venues and attractions. To the east, along either Knuckey Street of Peel Street, the bustling region around Smith Street is known for its affordable accommodation options, selection of shops and historic buildings. Smith Street is also home to Darwin's main tourism bureau.
