About Darwin Shops

(Darwin, Northern Territory - NT, Australia)

Darwin is a modern, important city and as such you will be able to find anything you might need at one of its many shopping centres, malls or galleries.

Many handmade Aboriginal-style art works are often to be found for sale in local gift stores, where they target the lucrative tourist market and make unusual souvenirs to take back home. These are in especially good supply along thoroughfares such as Mitchell Street and Knuckley Street, where both boomerangs and authentic didgeridoos can also be found at reasonable prices.

Shopping: Where to Shop in Darwin

A full range of big name products are on display at these venues and shoppers will likely find some good bargains. Much of Darwin's shopping is concentrated around the Wharf area and in central Darwin. However, the real fun of shopping can be experienced at one of the city's many popular open-air markets, such as the lively Rapid Creek Market and Parap Village.

These lively bazaars are a great place to hunt for bargains, particularly for aboriginal arts and crafts. On Thursday evenings, the highly popular Mindil Beach Market attracts large crowds of both visitors and locals, and should not be missed. Vendors don't accept plastic, so bring your cash, while the prices aren't fixed, making haggling skills a real asset.
